Inter have confirmed media reports that defender Aleksandar Kolarov has tested positive for COVID-19 with an official statement posted on the club’s website.

A short time ago Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport broke the news that the Serbian national team player had returned a positive test result from his latest test and Inter have now confirmed this report with the following statement.

“FC Internazionale Milano can confirm that Aleksandar Kolarov tested positive yesterday as he went through checks upon his return from international duty,” it begins.

“The player, who is totally asymptomatic, will now follow all of the guidelines and procedures laid out by the health protocol.”

Kolarov joined Inter in the most recent Summer transfer window for a nominal fee from fellow Serie A club AS Roma and he has since went on to make six appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has failed to score but has managed to provide a single assist.

Kolarov is now the third Inter player to currently be COVID-19 positive alongside both third choice goalkeeper Daniele Padelli and central midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.

Kolarov has joined the growing list of Inter players to have tested positive for COVID-19 with the likes of Alessandro Bastoni, Milan Skriniar and Radja Nainggolan all also having had COVID-19.
