Inter club captain and number one goalkeeper Samir Handanovic is getting closer to signing a contract extension with the club according to a report from Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.

Inter and the veteran goalkeeper have reached a general agreement over a contract extension through to the end of the 2022/23 season and only the final details are now needing ironed out. There will be further contact between the parties regarding the two year extension next month.

The report also goes on to add that former Lazio shot-stopper Handanovic’s time with Inter could even extend past his playing days.

Handanovic joined Inter back in the Summer of 2012 as treble winning hero Julio Cesar’s replacement in between the sticks and he has been virtually ever present for Inter since his arrival from Udinese.

The 36-year-old, who has 81 caps for Slovenia, has made 10 appearances across all competitions to date this term for Inter and has managed to keep just two clean sheets.
