Despite their defeat to Czech Republic and relegation in the UEFA Nations League, Inter and Slovakian natioanl team central defender Milan Skriniar has shared his belief that he has seen some big steps forward from the team.
Czech Republic ran out 2-0 winners over Skriniar’s Slovakia last night at the Doosan Arena in Plzen and the 25-year-old had the following to say after the match.
“In the first leg match, the Czech Republic were superior to us in everything, whilst in this match it did not go like that,” he explained in a press conference following the match.
“We started badly, but then we reacted well, holding the ball and created chances. We were not clinical in the final third. We certainly have to work hard, but I saw some big steps forward if we compare the two games against the Czechs.”
Asked about their relegation from UEFA Nations League B group 2 and why he felt it happened, Skriniar simply responded: “Relegation was mainly due to the defeats to Scotland and Israel.”
In conclusion the former Sampdoria player was asked if it was down to fatigue that he and his teammates were unable to get the better of the Czech Republic.
“Was it down to fatigue? It didn’t seem like it, frankly. In the second half we ran more than in the first. Now we have time to improve and, above all, we have reached Euro 2020, which was our greatest goal.”
This season Skriniar, who joined Inter back in 2017 and is under contract with them until 2023, has made just three appearances across all competitions to date for the club but he has been unable to make any goal contributions.
