Inter and club captain Samir Handanovic have come to an agreement over a one year contract extension according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Tuttosport.
Veteran shot-stopper Handanovic’s contract, which was due to expire at the end of this season has been extended to the end of next season but is yet to be formalised by the club and the player.
Despite the contract renewal, there is no guarantee that Handanovic, who will be 37-years-old by the time the 2021/22 season comes around, will be Inter’s starting goalkeeper past this season.
It could be the case that Handanovic acts as the mentor to a new number one that the club bring in who will ultimately be his long term successor.
Handanovic joined Inter back in the Summer of 2012 from fellow Serie A side Udinese and he has been pretty much ever present in the time since. In 352 appearances for the club, he has kept 124 clean sheets.
