Carlo Alberto Belloni, the referee of Inter owned goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio, has revealed that his client’s goal is return to Inter and play games following his loan spell with Serie B club Monza.

Di Gregorio, who is a product of Inter’s youth academy, joined the newly promoted Serie B outfit for the duration of this season and has since went on to make one appearance across all competitions, in which he has kept one clean sheet.

“If we have to talk about long-term goals, we have always said it and we do not hide today, I would say that the goal is to return and to play for Inter,” Belloni explained in an interview with Italian news outlet Pianetaserieb.it.

“Michele has grown up there since he was six and we have extended for others four years with the Nerazzurri.”

Belloni was then asked about whether his client could fulfil the role of deputy to current Inter number one goalkeeper and club captain Samir Handanovic.

“Could he be Handanovic’s deputy? Di Gregorio will follow the path that led Handanovic to become goalkeeper and captain of Inter and we imagined we could do it with Monza, who have great plans and ambitions, they have not hidden that they want to win Serie B and once they get to Serie A they do not just want to be extras.

“They have the economic potential to be able to maintain top flight football, something that only a few newly promoted clubs can manage precisely because of budget and salary issues.”

Di Gregorio, who once represented Italy at under 17 level, is currently under contract with Inter until 2024 and his loan with Monza is his fourth loan spell away from the club with him also having had loan spells with Renate, Novara and Pordenone.
