Former Inter defender Riccardo Ferri discussed the current Nerazzurri squad, coach Antonio Conte, Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku and Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen in an interview in today’s paper edition of the Turin based newspaper Tuttosport.

First, he commented on his feelings towards the current Inter squad and their growth.

“I have in my mind the match against Atalanta. Inter played with more balance and it is perhaps the first real match where we saw what will be the imprint of the team from now until the end of the season.

“Great progress has been made in terms of the game and especially in the non-possession phase.

“I don’t know who are the strongest team in the Serie A, but I know that Inter is a title contending side.

“The league will be more balanced than usual, in the fight for the European spots too and I am convinced that this year whoever will have more luck will win. The variable Covid has upset the balance.”

The 57-year-old Italian gave his thoughts about coach Antonio Conte, whose position at the club was confirmed in a meeting with the management at the end of last season.

“There is no better coach than Conte for this Inter. He has also improved in terms of communication. He has entered in the heads and hearts of the fans.

“If he succeeds in winning, he will also go down in history. He can do it.”

The former Inter defender was happy to sell 27-year-old Romelu Lukaku back in the squad again.

“He is a fundamental player. His return from the start will make the difference. He is not only a goal scorer, but also a team player.

“Leader also for the lovely words he says about his teammates. There are very few people like Lukaku. He forms a deadly partnership with Lautaro Martinez, practically unique in Europe.”

Finally, Ferri discussed the situation surrounding Nerazzurri midfielder Christian Eriksen, who publicly complained earlier this month about his lack of playing time in Milan.

“On Eriksen I’d say only one thing, the time for settling in is over. We haven’t seen anything of him in Italy yet.

“Because of the qualities he has, he can’t be a normal player, so he has the obligation to do more.”

The 28-year-old Eriksen, who is contracted to the Milanese club until 2024, seems destined to leave in the upcoming January transfer window, being clearly on the fringes of Conte’s project at Inter.
