Inter wing back Matteo Darmian discussed his goals, the Nerazzurri, his idols and his hobbies in an interview in today’s Matchday Program for the league clash against Torino this afternoon. His words were collected by Italian media outlet FcInter1908.

“For me it’s not the end point to join big clubs like Inter or Manchester United, it’s a starting point, a new beginning, that moment when you say ‘don’t give up because the good and the difficult comes now’.

“I started playing as a midfielder, then I moved further back and like how for strikers scoring a goal can be the greatest joy, for a defender stopping a goal is the best thing you can do.”

The 30-year-old Italian, who is on loan from Parma with a view of making a permanent move next summer, then commented on his hobbies.

“I listen to various kinds of music, but it’s true that my soul is a bit rock, one of my favorite bands are AC/DC, I really like their songs.

“Besides football I follow tennis a lot, I like it as a sport. My favorite? Roger Federer, a great player.”

The former Manchester United full back touched on how he has faced some of the best players around in his career so far.

“I have been lucky enough to play with great champions in my career and play important games marking great players. Among the most difficult ones I’d definitely say Hazard.”

Finally, Darmian spoke about his top five Inter players of all time.

“Toldo, goalkeeper of heart. Facchetti, elegant, innovator and legend.

“Baggio, a talent that brought everyone together. Mazzola, champion of the Great Inter. Vieri, pure power.”

Darmian has made eight appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 538 minutes. In that time, he has proven his tactical flexibility, being able to play as both a left wing back and a right wing back.

Last season he scored one goal and provided one assist with playing with Parma.
