Former Inter president and owner Massimo Moratti has admitted that he has been surprised by how Romelu Lukaku has performed since his arrival at Inter.

Lukaku joined Inter in the Summer of 2019 off the back of a difficult season with Manchester United and in the time since he has scored a sensational 43 goals in 60 appearances across all competitions for the club and has made himself a firm fan favourite.

“For me, he is a surprise, I didn’t think he could do so well. He is a very humble player,” Moratti explained in an interview with Italian radio station Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli earlier on today.

Moratti also touched upon former Inter striker and current AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has continued to perform to a high level despite being on the verge of 40-years-old.

“Zlatan Ibrahimovic is doing excellent things in an AC Milan shirt. He is a true champion, time hasn’t affected him.”

Moratti, who owned Inter for almost 20 years between 1995 and 2013, then went on to reveal one player that he wanted to bring to Inter whilst he was still with the club.

“I would have liked a Napoli player in my Inter. Someone like Lorenzo Insigne, I would have gladly signed him.”

In conclusion he discussed the race for the title in Serie A this season: “Juventus are always scary because they have quality and great experience, which comes as a the result of many victories they have had.

“In addition to Inter, however, I would also keep an eye on AC Milan, Napoli and Roma. The Giallorossi are very underestimated, or at least they were at the beginning of the season, but they are doing very well, led by an excellent Fonseca. Napoli, on the other hand, have a great attack and Gattuso is good at putting the players together.”
