Former Italian footballer Paolo Di Canio has shared his belief that Inter striker Romelu Lukaku is not on the same level as either AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo.

Lukaku scored a brace and grabbed an assist in Inter’s 4-2 win over Torino at the weekend but Di Canio, who admits Lukaku is a very good player, does not think that the Belgian national team player can be considered at the same level as Ibrahimovic or Ronaldo, who are equally as fundamental to their teams as Lukaku is to Inter.

“Inter cannot expect to win 15-20 matches like this. I like this Conte more, because he is the real one, the one who won.

“Before he was not very credible, he risked losing credibility with his players,” Di Canio began his analysis in the studios of Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia following on from the match at San Siro.

He then spoke on Lukaku and he explained: “You don’t start 1-0 up with him, you don’t place him with Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo. There are the top players and the good guys, and Lukaku is very good.

“He will do what he knows how to do, but I want to see him in important matches. He is a concrete player, functional to the team.”

In conclusion the former Lazio and West Ham United player spoke on Inter attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen, who remained on the substitutes bench for a third straight match.

“Do you remember who Eriksen played with? Kane and Dele Alli. Lukaku is different, he wants the ball on him, which doesn’t excite Eriksen. He finds it difficult, as does Hakimi.”
