Italian football journalist Stefano Barigelli has admitted that Inter manager Antonio Conte is not at fault, at least entirely, for Christian Eriksen’s struggles since his arrival at Inter.

Eriksen joined Inter on a four and a half year deal from Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur during the most recent January transfer window but he has performed nowhere near to expectations in his time with the club.

The Danish national team attacking midfielder has struggled to cement a place in Conte’s team and has very seldom managed to perform how he is expected to when he is given the opportunity to take to the field.

Given his ongoing struggles, multiple media outlets have suggested that there is a real possibility that the former Ajax player could leave Inter as early as the upcoming January transfer window with a whole host of clubs having been linked with him including Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid.

“The fault is not Conte’s. At least not all of it. Eriksen has quality, but lacks physique and temperament, which is what is needed most in Conte’s midfield. A simple example: ‘If a violinist is missing in an orchestra, you cannot put a cellist in his place’,” Barigelli explained in a column in yesterday’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.
