Inter captain and number one goalkeeper Samir Handanovic has shared his belief that he and his Nerazzurri teammates made their lives difficult for themselves in last night’s UEFA Champions League group stage defeat to Real Madrid.

Inter gave away a penalty within the first 10 minutes of the match which Eden Hazard scored. Things then get worse for Inter as Arturo Vidal was sent off just after the middle of the first half.

Things got even worse for Antonio Conte’s side when Rodrygo doubled the visitors’ lead just seconds after being substituted on.

Inter are sitting bottom of their group after four games played but still have a chance of making it to the next round of the competition but do need a lot of luck to make it through.

“We complicated our lives by ourselves, first with the penalty and then with the sending off,” he explained to Swiss television station RSI, following the full time whistle in the match at the San Siro last night.

“It is difficult to talk about a game compromised by us. We had to stay in the game and try to take advantage of some counterattacks or set pieces. Unfortunately we conceded the second goal and then Real Madrid began to handle the ball.”
