Italian football journalist Sandro Sabatini has shared his belief that Inter should re-appoint Luciano Spalletti as the club’s manager if current Inter boss Antonio Conte loses the next match.

Spalletti was Inter’s manager between 2017 and 2019 and relieved of his duties at the end of the 2018/19 season in order to make way for Conte.

Although he was removed from his position as manager, Spalletti is still in fact on Inter’s payroll until the end of this season and Sabatini believes that re-appointing him would be a more cost effective move for Inter than going out and bringing in another manager would be.

“If Conte loses against Sassuolo, I would call Spalletti back,” Sabatini explained in an interview with Italian radio station Radio Radio, earlier on today.

He went on to add: “Inter have already budgeted Conte who earns €12 million a year and Spalletti earns another €5 million. If you add their staff it will get to €21-22 million net and become almost €45 million gross.”

Former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has often been linked with succeeding Antonio Conte and Sabatini shared his views on Allegri and what he could do with this Inter team, which is something he believes Spalletti could also do.

“It is clear that Allegri would be the right man for Inter, but you would add another €17 million to the payroll and at this moment they cannot afford it. In my opinion Allegri would fix this team but Spalletti would too. So they could call him back.”
