After this weekends come back against Torino, a lot of Interisti hoped that Antonio Conte would learn the right lessons and maybe change the midfield composition and tactics to best suit the squad.

However, all those hopes faded away in the 6th minute as referee Anthony Taylor blew for a penalty for a Barella foul on Nacho. Hazard stepped up and Inter had no answers or the anger that was needed to force their way back.

Vidal thought he had won a similar penalty at the other end, but lost his temper and got sent off for his behavior. With almost an hour to go on the clock, Real showed their European experience and turned the game into a training match of retaining possession

Samir Handanovic – 5.5: Not much to do but watch his teammates get mauled throughout the game. Some regulation saves and could not do much on the other chances.

Milan Skriniar – 5.5: Gave it his all and made some great tackles in very difficult moment. Showed some character and looked much more at home in both formations.

Stefan de Vrij – 5: Struggled to mark Mariano throughout. The movement of the Real forward line seemed to confuse him more than Bastoni and Skriniar. Struggle.

Alessandro Bastoni – 5.5: Played a lot of safe horizontal passes throughout the first half. Always took the safe option and his long diagonal balls did not really have any impact.

Achraf Hakimi – 5: Looks a shadow of the player that Inter expected. Like a deer in headlights.  Lack of confidence shows in his basic skills. Poor marking on the second goal.

Roberto Gagliardini – 5: Typical Gagliardini game. Made no positive impact and could have stopped the move that led to the penalty. Nothing great to make note off. Poor.

Arturo Vidal – 3.5: Arturo was supposed to bring experience but left his teammates with an impossible task. Should have kept his emotions in check. Shocking night.

Nicolo Barella – 5: Made a foolish error at the start of the game to put Inter at a disadvantage. Ran around chasing the ball till the final whistle and did not give up.

Ashley Young – 5: Poor night for Ashley. Struggled to contain the attack even more when Inter were down to 10 men. Did not make any decent attacking moves.

Romelu Lukaku – 4.5: The worst Lukaku performance since he signed for Inter. His teammates struggled to involve him. When they did, he did not make any impact.

Lautaro Martinez – 4.5: Paid for Vidal’s mistake. Real’s game plan did not allow him or Romelu to combine or even get involved into the game. Tried his all but in vain.

Ivan Perisic – 5.5: Came on in a hopeless situation and refused to simply accept fate. Ran a lot in his 45 minutes and managed to cause slight trouble to Real’s defense.

Danilo D’Ambrosio – 5: Stayed back in the right side of defense almost all the time. Tried to combine in attack but those runs were far and few between. Not much to say.

Alexis Sanchez – 5: Conte threw him on more in hope than anything for Hakimi. Got involved and tried to ruffle a few feathers in the Real defense without success.

Stefano Sensi – 5: Probably the only positive tonight. Hopefully, he has put all his injury troubles behind as a fit and in form Sensi can make Conte’s football click nicely.

Christian Eriksen – N/A: Thrown on just to give him a few minutes towards the end of the game. Ran around for his 6 mins chasing Modric throughout. On his way out.

Antonio Conte – 4: After the Torino game, it seemed like a corner was turned and the players had more fire in their bellies. It was a false dawn. Hanging by a thread.

Anthony Taylor – 5: Right to send off Vidal for his behavior. Refused to go to the screen for the VAR checks on a couple of occasions. Soft penalty to Real.

Inter – 4.5: Conte talked about ferociousness and the lack of it. The only moment anyone showed some anger was when Arturo was sent off in a must win game.
