Standard Liege defender Zinho Vanheusden has revealed that he dreams of being able to return to play for Inter one day.
Vanheusden is a product of Inter’s youth academy and was sold to his current employers back in the Summer of 2019. As part of the sale to Standard Liege, Inter agreed a buy back option with them and multiple reports have stated that Inter have continued to monitor Vanheusden and his progress in Belgium.
“If I was thinking about a transfer? No, up until now I have been completely focused on Standard Liege,” he admitted in an interview with Belgian news outlet Sporza.
“Obviously it remains a dream to return there one day. It is one of the biggest clubs in the world. world. I grew up there for some time, for me it was a great moment.”
Vanheusden proceeded to discuss his ongoing recovery process from his season ending cruciate ligament injury which he sustained in a match a few weeks ago.
“The first 10 days were terrible. I was in a lot of pain and I couldn’t do anything on my own. I couldn’t even go to the bathroom but I never feared my career was over.
“If anything it was an immense disappointment for myself as I was doing well. I had already had a similar injury and I knew immediately it would be six long months again but I will come back stronger after this injury.”
The 21-year-old, who is Standard Liege’s captain, is under contract with them through to the end of the 2022/23 season. Prior to his injury, he made 13 appearances across all competitions to date this term but was unable to make any goal contributions in his time on the park.
