Inter CEO Alessandro Antonello discussed the Nerazzurri’s financial data for the 2019/20 season, where they registered losses of around €102 million, in an interview with Italian news outlet Il Sole 24 Ore, as reported by FcInterNews.

“These trends make the construction of a quality stadium and a sports district in San Siro even more urgent. Suffice it to say that the areas equipped with additional services for the public, for which we are overbooked, today cover 4% against a European average of 15.

“Together with AC Milan we have filed a few days ago the new technical proposal that welcomes the findings of the Municipality. We hope that the procedure will move forward even if there are the elections in spring.”

The Inter CEO commented on the growth of the Nerazzurri brand over the last five years and how to appeal to the young generations.

“The value of the brand has grown by over 235% in the last five years. The global fanbase has grown to 43 million followers, making us the ninth largest club in the world.

“And here, as President Zhang points out, the crucial challenge will be to increase the fan experience to recover the appeal for generation Z, who are less and less interested in games.

“The evolution in media companies on which we’ve invested considerable resources with the creation of innovative and increasingly geo-localized digital content has led us to reach 340 million views and 560 million interactions. A wealth of information that we make available to our partners.”

He confirmed that the Milanese club were looking for a new main shirt sponsor in China and Asia.

“An area from which the new main sponsor will come from to replace Pirelli, who will play a different role.”

The Inter CEO touched on the club’s new project of creating physical retail stores to complement the online storefront.

“A program from which we expect a lot. As well as the new media company of the League with the injection of funds.

“After the three-year period 2021-24, where things may be in decline, we expect that a more business-oriented governance can enhance the value of the Serie A product.”

Finally, Antonello spoke about the incredibly high wages of football players around Europe and what needs to be done.

“The wages which absorb 75/80% of revenues are unsustainable. We need an agreement at European level to reduce compensation.

“We are ready for the new industrial challenges of football, but everyone must do their part.”

Inter are currently fifth in Serie A after eight games, sitting on 15 points. The Milanese side have only lost one of their last five league games, but have found less fortune in Europe.

In the Champions League, Inter have failed to win once after four games, and as such are bottom of Group B, with two points.
