Inter midfielder Roberto Gagliardini discussed the Nerazzurri’s crucial 3-0 win over Sassuolo earlier today in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia after the game.

“Today was a match that we couldn’t go wrong in, we faced it in the right way, respecting Sassuolo but putting our qualities on the field. And everything went well.”

He commented on the squad’s reaction to their painful Champions League loss to Real Madrid earlier this week.

“We are bombarded on all sides, little to say and think. You have to think immediately about the next game and so we did. I think we have seen the team’s attitude, compact, giving little.”

The Italian midfielder touched on the team playing 3-5-2 today and if that suited them better.

“Yes, we covered the pitch better. But it’s a system we already knew from last year, we didn’t need too much time to get into the mechanisms.”

Finally, Gagliardini spoke about the differences in today’s game compared to past matches.

“The big difference was that we were able to wait for them and press in certain areas, unlike when we press all over the pitch.”

The 26-year-old Gagliardini, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2023, has made eight appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 472 minutes.

In that time, he has scored two goals and provided one assist, including a goal against the Neroverdi earlier today.

Inter’s win means that they are now second in the league table after nine games, sitting on 18 points, two below league leaders AC Milan.

The Nerazzurri’s position may change as both Juventus and Roma are yet to play this weekend, but the win was crucial nonetheless.
