Inter wing back Matteo Darmian spoke about the Milanese club’s important 3-0 Serie A win over Sassuolo in an interview with Italian broadcaster InterTV after the game.

“It was certainly a great performance by the whole team, it was what we needed at this moment. We came from a defeat, we wanted to redeem ourselves and I think this was the best way to do it.”

He commented on today’s opponents the Neroverdi, who are currently tied with the Nerazzurri on 18 points.

“We knew we were meeting a fit and strong team with quality players. They are doing well, but we came here convinced of what we had to do, I think we saw that and we deserved the victory.”

The former Manchester United man touched on his first assist as an Inter player.

“Yes, certainly when you can give a hand in the offensive phase it’s always a pleasure. If you can help the team to get the win it’s the most important thing.”

The Italian wing back touched on his duel against Sassuolo’s Jeremie Boga.

“Thanks for the compliments. I knew I had a tough opponent in front of me, good in one on one. The whole team knew it, we had a very good defensive game, we limited not only Boga but everybody.

“I think we played a very good game in general, offensive and defensive. It was what we needed.”

Finally, Darmian spoke about Inter’s upcoming game next week, a vital Champions League meeting with German side Borussia Monchengladbach.

“We must have the same desire and determination as today, it will be difficult against a tough opponent.

“Every Champions League game is difficult, we will go there to win the game because we want to do everything we can until mathematics says we can’t progress. We want to earn as many points as possible.”

The 30-year-old Darmian, who is currently on loan from fellow Italian side Parma, has made nine appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 628 minutes.

In that time, he has provided one assist and been noted for his tactical flexibility, giving coach Antonio Conte more rotational options.

Inter’s win means that they are now second in the league table after nine games on 18 points, two behind rivals and league leaders AC Milan.
