Italian Journalist Marani: “If Inter Can Be A Team, They Can Overtake Juventus”

Italian journalist Matteo Marani discussed Inter’s 3-0 win over Sassuolo, their Champions League group stage so far, Matteo Darmian and Arturo Vidal whilst speaking with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia earlier today.

First, he spoke about Darmian, who is currently on loan from Parma.

“Hakimi remains on a higher level, but Matteo is the manifesto of balance. Inter gives their best when they don’t have to interpret anything.

“In games where the plan is already drawn, they give their best, because they find solidity and compactness.”

He commented on how the Milanese club seem to perform better in away games than home fixtures this season.

“In away games, Inter have 3 wins and 2 draws. At home it is more difficult. When the Nerazzurri have to play the game, they struggle, because they have interpreters with certain characteristics.

“Inter have to win, they can’t talk about a path. The indication is clear, the team’s way of playing is more effective in away games.”

Marani touched on the team’s balance and how they can find strength in coach Antonio Conte’s philosophy.

“If Inter can be a team, they can overtake Juventus. You need balance, but above all you have to find solutions when the other team is not waiting.

“At the beginning of the season Conte defended the ball possession, but evidently at Inter it doesn’t work. Today there was no trequartista, Conte must go on with his football, with his ideas.”

He commented on the performance of Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal against the Neroverdi. The 33-year-old was sent off in the first half of the Champions League loss to Real Madrid earlier this week.

“Today I thought he was disciplined, other times I saw him start too far forward, leaving room behind.”

Finally, Marani spoke about the Champions League. Inter currently sit bottom of their group after four games with two points.

“Inter’s goal is to do well in the league, I don’t blame Conte too much for the Champions League. Today a great signal. And I liked the management for their behaviour and the words in the past days.”

Inter’s win means that they are now second in the league table after nine games, two points behind league leaders AC Milan, who can extend their lead with a win over Fiorentina tomorrow.
