Sassuolo coach Roberto De Zerbi discussed the Neroverdi’s painful 3-0 loss to Antonio Conte’s Inter in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia after the game.

“We lost after nine games and we conceded the first two bad goals. A little bit soft, a little bit not very concentrated and if you concede two goals like that after 13 minutes, against an Inter that was good, everything becomes more difficult.

“The fact of losing must not make us lose enthusiasm and awareness. We are trying to raise the bar, it happens and we must understand what we did wrong and start again on Tuesday without losing our heads. Like in the not brilliant wins, the triumph wasn’t there.”

He commented on how it is normal for teams to have ups and downs as they are growing and improving.

“If we set a target, we are wrong. Surpassing the first seven means that one of them will hit the ground running and we do everything perfect.

“It happens to have ups and downs when you grow. It’s a global thing that happens with everyone. In order to become great, it happens to fall and lose, especially when you find the right first teams. These days happen, I’ve had a lot of them.”

The Sassuolo coach touched on the mistakes made in the loss to the Nerazzurri.

“We went too high to press, like what happened in the third goal. It takes courage to be resourceful, some are not at their best physically and for us that’s decisive.”

Finally, De Zerbi spoke about how there was a lack of technique at the back.

“Also the choice. Going behind after 13 minutes directed the game. Without taking anything away from Inter, we didn’t discover anything today. Going down against an Inter so focused made everything difficult.”

Sassuolo’s loss to the Nerazzurri means that they are now third in the league table after nine games, sitting on 18 points, tied with the Milanese club.

Both teams are two points behind league leaders AC Milan, who can extend their lead tomorrow with a win over a struggling Fiorentina side, who have only won once in their last five games.

Inter’s next game is against German side Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League next week.
