Thanks to the win over Sassuolo at the weekend, Inter are convinced that they can be a protagonist in this year’s Serie A according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

Inter currently sit in second place in the Serie A table after nine games played and are trailing league leaders AC Milan by five points.

Between now and the Christmas break, Inter will face Bologna, Cagliari, Napoli, Spezia and Hellas Verona and will resume the season after the break with matches against Crotone and Spezia.

In short, it is a kind schedule for Inter and one that they must look to take full advantage of.

The importance of the three man defence of Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni cannot be underestimated.

Due to Skriniar and Bastoni both having had COVID-19, the trio have had limited time together on the field but them all playing together and doing so regularly could represent a turning point for Inter.

Inter manager Antonio Conte opted to deploy a deeper defensive line in the 3-0 win over Sassuolo which helped Inter to victory as did playing Matteo Darmian at right wing-back and Nicolo Barella in front of the defence.
