Inter Legend Beppe Bergomi: “Inter’s Attitude Vs Sassuolo Was Different, Now It Has To Last”

Legendary Inter defender and captain Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi has shared his views on how things changed for Inter between the 2-0 UEFA Champions League group stage loss to Real Madrid last Wednesday compared to this weekend’s Serie A win over Sassuolo.

Inter scored via Alexis Sanchez after just a few minutes of the game at the MAPEI Stadium and followed up with a second goal minutes later. Roberto Gagliardini rounded off the scoring for Inter in their 3-0 win in the second half.

“In my opinion it was necessary to talk to each other. After the match with Real Madrid there was something wrong,” he explained whilst present in the studios of Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia during their Sky Calcio Club show last night.

“Inter are a strong team and to have that performance from everyone there had to be a clarification, but I don’t know what they said or did not say, but the attitude of the team on the pitch against Sassuolo from many points of view was an Inter attitude, even looking at the performance of individuals from Vidal to Barella.”

Bergomi, who spent the entirety of his playing career on Inter’s books, then went on to discuss the attitude that Inter displayed and what needs to happen.

“The attitude from Inter was different, but now it has to last. Up to now Inter had always struggled with the small teams and had won by making comebacks and not playing very well, with the big team they played well but could not achieve results. Against Sassuolo it went differently, scoring against Inter was almost impossible.

Bergomi proceeded to speak on Inter manager Antonio Conte’s post-match comments in which he discussed the constant pressure on him and his team.

“I am with him, because I have experienced this environment and I know what they are dealing with and Conte, who has been at other teams, really feels that Inter is different.

“Lately Inter has experienced a sense of encirclement. When you are inside you experience this feeling in a different way, a lot is expected from Inter because there are high expectations. If certain things are said by Conte who has been elsewhere, I’m with him. I like this Antonio, I liked the team so much.”
