Inter had shown an interest in signing Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico during the Summer transfer window but were put off by the Dutch club’s asking price according to a report from Italian news outlet FCInterNews.it.

Ajax demanded a sum of €25 million for the Argentine national team full back and whilst not a huge amount for a player of his calibre, it was too much for Inter to spend given the economic situation in football that has been hugely impacted by the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Had Bayern Munich signed Ivan Perisic, things could have turned out differently and a move for Tagliafico could have advanced.

Inter were not alone in showing an interest in Tagliafico either. Chelsea showed an interest in signing him whilst they struggled to convince Leicester City to part ways with Ben Chilwell and had they signed Tagliafico, the Blues could have opened up to letting Marcos Alonso, who was another player Inter showed an interest in, go.

Chelsea were however very much reluctant to part ways with the Spaniard and as with Tagliafico, Perisic staying at Inter made everything difficult.
