Inter wing-back Matteo Darmian has admitted that he thinks the team played good and approached the match versus Borussia Monchengladbach in the right manner.

Darmian opened the scoring for the visiting Nerazzurri at Borussia Park and a brace from talismanic striker Romelu Lukaku helped Inter to an all important 3-2 win over the group leaders on the penultimate match day of the group stage.

“Their fans disturbed us but they also fired us up. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy but I think we had a good match and approached it in the right way,” he explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia following the conclusion of the match in Germany.

“In a few hours it’s my birthday and I celebrated with the goal. We knew we had to win both and we took the first step, in a few days the second step is waiting for us and we’ll see if we can make it through.”

Thanks to the win over Borussia Monchengladbach, Inter gave themselves a chance at progression to the next round or a place in the knockout stages of the Europa League.

In order to make it to the next round, Inter must get the better of Shakhtar Donetsk at San Siro and hope that the other group stage match between Real Madrid and Borussia Monchengladbach does not end as a draw.
