Inter wing-back Matteo Darmian has shared his belief that he and his teammates put in a great performance in their 3-2 win away to Borussia Monchengladbach in their penultimate match of the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League group stage.

The former Manchester United player, who joined Inter in the Summer transfer window from Parma, opened the scoring for Inter relatively early on and he has shared his thoughts on his goal.

“I saw the space and I went into it and Gagliardini gave me a nice ball. I tried the shot and it went under the goalkeeper’s legs, which allowed us to make the break through in a difficult match,” he explained to Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV following the conclusion of the match in Germany.

He then went on to reflect on the match itself: “We knew it was not going to be easy today, but I think we had a great match, we knew how to suffer in the most difficult moments. We won a fundamental match.”

The 36 time Italian national team representative was then asked about what this result means for Inter’s UEFA Champions League group stage journey.

“We knew we had to win them both. The first step has been taken, in a week we will have to repeat it against Shakhtar.

He concluded by adding: “I have positive feelings, there is a good chance of making it through. We will have to do our duty as we did tonight. We have certainly lost some points so far, but we are still there to qualify.”

Since his arrival at Inter, the 30-year-old has made seven appearances across all competitions to date. In his time on the park, which totals just under 500 minutes, he has scored one goal and provided one assist.
