Former Inter defender Antonio Paganin has shared his belief that Inter are picking up the pace off the back of their two consecutive wins versus Sassuolo in the league and most recently Borussia Monchengladbach in the UEFA Champions League group stage.

“It was an important performance that comes after an equally excellent performance in the league. Inter are picking up their pace,” he explained in an interview with Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.

“Up to now, we have been discussing performances that were not up to the level of the squad that they have. They suffered against Real Madrid, but yesterday they gave a show of strength and certified that they can do well in Europe and in Italy.”

He then spoke on Inter’s right wing-backs Achraf Hakimi and Matteo Darmian, the latter of whom has taken the place of the former in the Inter starting line-up: “The first one is attacking whilst the second gives you more balance. It is not easy to adapt to the Italian league , especially from a tactical point of view.”

In conclusion he discussed what he has made of the first few months of Arturo Vidal at Inter following his arrival from Barcelona during the Summer transfer window.

“It was thought that he could raise the quality of the team but he is turning out to be a burden. He had a hard time finding himself, he is always late.

“Yesterday’s midfield was more dynamic. Barella has always been lively and Brozovic sets the pace as he did last year. I’m curious to see what will happen later.”

Paganin spent five years with Inter between 1990 and 1995, two of which were spent playing alongside his brother Massimo.

During his spell at the Nerazzurri Paganin made 141 appearances across all competitions, in which he scored one goal and won two UEFA Cups.
