Noted Italian football journalist Mario Sconcerti has joined in on the Romelu Lukaku love fest that has taken place in the days since his performance in Inter’s UEFA Champions League group stage win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Lukaku grabbed a brace in Germany which helped Inter to secure an all important 3-2 win and since the match pundits and people in football have been quick to sing the praises of the former Manchester United man.

“There has never been someone with the total characteristics of Lukaku. He reminds me a bit of Weah and a bit of Drogba but he is not just all about speed and power, he has tactical intelligence,” he explained in his latest column which appeared in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera.

“Lukaku is half a team because he represents many game patterns on his own. He catalyses the team’s movements, but does not force them. He knows how to vary his play which is not often elementary for big forwards.”

Sconcerti then went on to share his belief that the Belgian national team striker possesses something that neither Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, both of whom are considered among the greatest players of all time, have.

“Such a mathematical and natural type of player had not yet existed, he has a physical completeness that even Ronaldo does not have and Messi certainly does not have.

“One needs more agility and precision, he plays for himself. The other is omnipotent with the ball at his feet, but he must anticipate to avoid the conflict because it is very slight. Lukaku expands on the field. He is overflowing. He opens his arms, covers the ball and doesn’t move.”

Since joining Inter in the Summer of 2019, Lukaku has made 63 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored 45 goals.
