Legendary Italian football manager Arrigo Sacchi has shared his belief that Inter manager Antonio Conte is doing a great job with the Nerazzurri.

Conte is into his second season in charge of Inter and has managed the club in 67 games across all competitions to date, of which he has won 38.

Last season he led Inter to a second placed finish in Serie A, the Coppa Italia semi-finals and the Europa League final, which they lost to Sevilla.

“Conte’s Inter wins with merit and takes another step forward in the game. A victory against Shakhtar could mean, if Real and Borussia do not draw, passage to the second round of the Champions League,” he explained in an interview with Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, which appeared in today’s print edition.

“Antonio Conte, as always, is doing a great job. He is a great professional who loves his job and who gives life to football. He has only one certainty and that is you can always do more and better.

“He has a great level of sensitivity that allows him to correct mistakes and timing of his boys in training. The commitment of the players and the team spirit are growing.”

Sacchi then went on to discuss Inter’s attacking and defending departments as well as the way that Conte has his team pressing and how all these things could be improved on.

“Now the attack is excellent and deadly on the counterattack, discreet in possession of the ball with room for improvement and participation by all 11 players. Perhaps the team should be more compact to facilitate the task.

“Brozovic plays a strategic role both in terms of game changes and for the defensive filter. The defensive phase is to be improved upon, the defensive department is not always coordinated.

“The pressing could be more effective if the team were more compact, so the defensive phase and counterattacks would benefit from that. If the Nerazzurri follow their coach, the results will be certain.”

Sacchi is perhaps best known for his spell in charge of AC Milan in the last 1980s and early 1990s when the Rossoneri were especially dominant in Europe. Sacchi also had spells in charge of Parma and Fiorentina among others.
