The beginning of next year will be a decisive time for Inter and AC Milan’s joint new stadium project according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

At the start of last month Inter and AC Milan filed the integration of a feasibility study with the Milan city council as well as the financial plan.

The two clubs also reduced the area surrounding the stadium facility by reducing the volumetric index from 0.63 down to 0.51 and agreed to incorporate the current San Siro stadium in the new stadium project in some manner.

Inter and AC Milan have given their ok to pay €100 million to take the land for the next 99 years and at least another 80 to refurbish the Meazza.

The new stadium will have a capacity of between 60,000-65,000 and all in all the total cost of the project will be no less than €1.2 billion. The goal of the clubs is to have the new stadium opened in 2024 and have it host the Olympic games in 2026.
