Former Juventus full back and DAZN columnist Federico Balzaretti did not think Inter coach Antonio Conte’s decision to bring on Christian Eriksen in the dying minutes of the game was a negative gesture, as stated when speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN earlier today.

“It is a good sign, when you have this anger inside you are not resigned. It’s not a bad sign, beyond the gesture. It means that it gnaws at you and you know you can give more. It is not a negative thing, we do not interpret all gestures as negative, it is positive.”

The 28-year-old Eriksen, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2024, played only a minute against the Rossoblu in yesterday’s 3-1 win. After the final whistle he did not celebrate with his teammates, and simply immediately retreated to the locker room.

Some have criticised Conte for deploying the Danish midfielder so late into the game, suggesting that it is humiliating for a professional of his level.

Eriksen has made 10 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 310 minutes. In that time, he has remained mostly invisible and has not contributed to a goal.

The former Tottenham man seems destined to leave the club in the upcoming January transfer window, with French giants Paris Saint-Germain previously linked with him.
