Populous’ ‘Cathedral’ design for Inter and AC Milan’s proposed new stadium design appears to be the favorite t be named the winning project according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera.

As per this report, Populous winning over the joint project from Manica-Cmr Sportium can be taken for granted and Populous project will see a stadium with a capacity of around 60,000 built.

Populous’ project is a tribute to Milan’s famous Duomo cathedral and will include glass and spires to remember the iconic monument in the Milan city centre. The stadium will also be able to change colours depending on whether it is Inter or AC Milan playing at home.

Before officially entrusting Populous with the task of drawing up the final design, the two Milanese clubs want to be sure that it will lead to a declaration of public interest by the council and safe from appeals from associations, citizens’ committees and political parties.

The report from the Milan based news outlet goes on to add that if the new stadium can be used 365 days a year revenues for Suning and Elliott Management should reach €131 million.

It will cost the clubs around €25 million a year to maintain the new stadium that is expected to take six years and eight months to complete in full.
