Romelu Lukaku will have to take on the role of leader tonight for Inter and help drag them through to the next round of the UEFA Champions League according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Heading into the penultimate match last week versus Borussia Monchengladbach, qualification appeared a remote possibility for Antonio Conte’s side but Lukaku’s brace helped Inter to a 3-2 win which has given them a shot at qualification today. Inter must win and Real Madrid and Borussia Monchengladbach must not draw.

The report goes on to highlight that in 15 games between the Champions League and Europa League for Inter, Lukaku has played a part in 17 goals, with him having scored 13 and provided four assist.

The Milan based news outlet go on to state that it is not just goals that shape Lukaku’s status at Inter because he is almost like a spiritual leader of this side with thanks to his symbiotic relationship with manager Antonio Conte.
