Noted Italian football journalist Paolo Condo has shared his belief that Shakhtar Donetsk did not steal anything in their final UEFA Champions League group stage match away to Inter.

Inter headed into the match having to win to stand any chance of progression but not only did they fail to win, they also failed to score whatsoever as they played out a goalless draw with the Ukrainian giants.

The result means Inter have been eliminated from the group stage of the UEFA Champions League for the past three seasons. Inter finished rock bottom of group B with them managing to pick up a very poor six points from a possible 18 available to them.

Shakhtar Donetsk were also eliminated from the competition but will drop down to the Europa League having finished third in the group.

“There was no fix to play for a draw, instead there was a meltdown,” Condo explained whilst present in the studios of Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, following the match at San Siro on Wednesday night.

“With great effort, Inter tried to get a win a sensational fashion at the end with Sanchez’s header blocked by Lukaku, who was offside. Shakhtar didn’t steal anything but there was also this stroke of bad luck last night at San Siro.”
