Inter manager Antonio Conte is not at risk of losing his role as Inter manager nor is there an internal disconnect at Inter following their elimination from the UEFA Champions League according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We were aware of the difficulties that we could have encountered in this anomalous season,” Inter president Steven Zhang is quoted as saying in this report.

“Together we have decided to face them with courage and determination. We must continue to do so now. Our goal does not change. We must fight and give everything for the good of Inter. Together.”

The report highlights that it is a difficult situation at Inter because it is the first step backwards under Suning’s ownership  since so far there has always been an improvement compared to the previous year.

Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta, Piero Ausilio and Javier Zanetti were all present at Inter’s training ground yesterday and had lunch with Conte and together they analysed things.

One of the things to come from the meeting was an agreement to use the elimination from the Champions League as a springboard to focus entirely on the league. The limits of the team were also highlighted.

The current Inter team have once again showed gaps in terms of personality and winning habits. Inter had planned to review the squad in depth but this was not completed due to the pandemic which limited movement on the transfer market and this does not just apply to incoming transfers but also outgoing ones.

In January, transfers will be the result of choices made and not emergencies. Matias Vecino, Radja Nainggolan and Christian Eriksen could all leave the club. As for signing a fourth striker, it remains to be seen what happens in this regard. As things stand all that counts is this weekend’s match away to Cagliari.
