Former Inter striker Nicola Ventola has shared his belief that Inter played how they were supposed to in last night’s UEFA Champions League group stage draw at home to Shakhtar Donetsk aside from the fact they were once again unable to score against the Ukrainian side.
The sides played out a goalless draw, a result which eliminated Inter from the UEFA Champions League at the group stage for the third season in a row whilst Shakhtar Donetsk finished third in the group and will play in the Europa League in the new year.
“Inter played the match they were supposed to play, it’s normal that you had to score and they couldn’t do it in 180 minutes,” Ventola explained in an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV following on from last night’s match at San Siro.
“The disappointment is great because in two matches they created so much and they were eliminated from a group they could have went through from especially given how Real Madrid have been in recent months.
“I’m sorry because they were superior to almost everyone, even against Real Madrid, and they didn’t manage to get past a round that was within their reach.”
Ventola then went on to to express his thoughts with regards to Inter’s performances in Serie A so far this season with the Nerazzurri club sitting in second place in the table after a total of 10 games played.
“Inter are starting to achieve results, they dominated against Bologna. This result is a result that hurts, but I am convinced that Inter will now concentrate on the league.
“Where they have a good opportunity to do well and also to win. In the last four games, Inter have given security and a feeling of solidity.”
