Bologna coach Sinisa Mihajlovic discussed the Rossoblu’s 3-1 loss to Inter last weekend whilst speaking to gathered reporters in a press conference yesterday. His words were collected by Italian media outlet FcInterNews.

“The defeat to Inter was my fault, but I also made it clear why I made these choices. I couldn’t leave Lautaro Martinez and Lukaku 50 meters of space with Tomiyasu and Danilo, as they are physically stronger and faster.

“And I preferred to put in an extra defender. But also, because if I started with the usual system, I had no changes during the match. We could definitely do better, we were neither meat nor fish, but it was my fault.”

The Rossoblu coach highlighted how he apologized to the players and didn’t blame them at all for the loss.

“The message was misunderstood, they thought we were going to Milan trying not to lose and not trying to win, even though the match was prepared differently. I apologized to the players, I take the blame.

“I understood that we cannot play with that form. It’s true that we’ve been conceding goals for 40 games, but my goal has always been to score one goal more than the opponent.”

Bologna are currently 11th in Serie A after 10 games, sitting on 12 points from four wins and six losses.

Inter’s win helped them secure second in the league table, although they’ve currently dropped to third after Sassuolo’s win over Benevento on Friday.

Inter can reclaim second tomorrow afternoon with a win over 12th place Cagliari, an important game for the squad to show their reaction to their early elimination from the Champions League earlier this week.

The Nerazzurri’s painful 0-0 draw with Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk was not enough to see them qualify for the next stage in the competition, and in fact left them bottom of their group, eliminating them from European competition entirely.
