Former Palermo full back Federico Balzaretti discussed Inter striker Romelu Lukaku and how he can look to improve whilst speaking with Italian broadcaster DAZN yesterday.

“He is a striker who plays a lot, who sacrifices himself and who Conte asks a lot of. All this leads him to not always be clear headed in his choices and in front of goal in the decisive moments.

“And this is something that weighs heavily on a striker. If you get an opportunity in the 90th minute, you have to be mentally fresh. His next step must be to choose the moments in which to hurt the opponents.”

The 27-year-old Lukaku, who is contracted to the Nerazzurri until 2024, has made 14 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1059 minutes. In that time, he has scored 12 goals and provided two assists.

The player is a core part of coach Antonio Conte’s tactical system and the team clearly suffered without him when he missed two games due to a muscle injury earlier this campaign.

Inter and Lukaku will be looking to bounce back from their incredibly painful 0-0 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk earlier this week in tomorrow afternoon’s league clash against Cagliari.

The draw meant that the Milanese club finished bottom of their Champions League group, eliminating them entirely from European competition this season.
