Former Inter midfielder Benoit Cauet has shared his views on how important tomorrow night’s Serie A match at home to Napoli is for the Nerazzurri.

“It’s very important. Conte’s team are out of the Champions League and need to do well in the league,” he explained in an interview with Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb’s radio station TMW Radio, which took place earlier on today.

“Napoli are a team that plays very well, it will be a good test. It can be worth a lot from a psychological point of view. If you win, you beat an opponent on the same level as you.”

The Frenchman, who spent four years with Inter between 1997 and 2001, then spoke on Inter manager Antonio Conte and his ‘plan B’ which was seen during the Serie A win away to Cagliari at the weekend.

“He changed things against Cagliari but Conte has his own way of interpreting his matches. He has always played his game and also has a plan B for change. I don’t see Conte changing the team.”

Cauet then went on to share his belief that Inter are better in some areas than Napoli are but despite this, he is predicting an open game to be played between the two sides who currently occupy the second and third spots in the Serie A standings.

“Well, Inter have more experience and maturity, but they way Napoli play makes them very strong. Osimhen’s absence is important, even if Petagna is a good player. The match will be open. Up front they have devastating players, the defence will be decisive.”

In conclusion he was asked about the obligation that Inter find themselves under to win after their elimination from all European football last week.

“This club continues to build something important. Something has been built for at least three seasons to fight for the Scudetto. The conditions for winning are there, but I would not speak of failure. Everyone wants to win but only one can do it. Inter are laying the foundations to win not only today but tomorrow.”
