The most likely destination of Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez’s next club is the city of Milan according to a report in today’s print edition of Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera.

Gomez and Atalanta appear almost certain to go their separate ways in the upcoming January transfer window and the Argentine playmaker may not move too far from Bergamo.

Inter have been strongly linked with signing the 32-year-old and the Nerazzurri could be the best option for him as he he could come in and be a replacement for Christian Eriksen, who appears to be on his way out of Inter after a nightmare spell with the club.

The qualities that Gomez has could potentially convince Inter manager Antonio Conte more than Eriksen did and Gomez would replace Eriksen in the best possible way, with him able to guarantee more dynamism than the Danish national team player.

Gomez’s creativity and ability to shoot from outside the box could help Inter to do something they have struggled with this season in breaking through in tough matches. Gomez has a real desire to win some silverware and this could perhaps lead him to accepting to play a certain role.

In the event of Eriksen’s departure, Inter would have offloaded a salary of €7.5 million a year, plus €1.5 million in bonuses, from their books, a saving which would allow Inter to offer Gomez an increase on the salary he currently earns at Atalanta.
