Noted Italian football journalist Mario Sconcerti has praised Inter for their win over Napoli last night which brought them within one point of top spot in Serie A after AC Milan drew 2-2 with Genoa.

Inter ran out 1-0 winners at San Siro over the Partenopei club despite not playing particularly well with Romelu Lukaku grabbing his 14th goal of the season.

“AC Milan have confirmed their difficulties, which arise from the absence of Ibrahimovic but continue clearly with the lack of Kjaer,” he began his latest column for Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera, which appeared in today’s print edition of the Milanese news outlet.

“They almost entirely lose their advantage over Inter, who have given a strong boost to their season by winning a of their games in which they have not been good in.”

Sconcerti then went on to analyse the match between Inter and Napoli and started by sharing his thoughts on the performances of some of Inter’s players.

“The best was Handanovic, the worst Lukaku, even Barella was discontinuous, Bastoni was tired, Skriniar was out of the game, Brozovic was injured.”

Sconcerti proceeded to talk on the game itself: “For over two thirds of the game Inter and Napoli played by exchanging dribbles and waiting for an idea that didn’t come.

“Napoli were better as they always directed the match. Inter confused in a strange match, against a fast and technical opponent, not physical but better prepared to control the game.”

Sconcerti then went on to share his thoughts on the penalty that Davide Massa awarded Inter when David Ospina wiped Inter wing-back Matteo Darmian out.

“The turning point was given by the referee signalling a correct penalty but perhaps it was a bit soft. Ospina commits a foul, even if Darmian had already played the ball towards the goal.”

He concluded by expressing his views on Napoli attacker Lorenzo Insigne’s sending off after he protested the penalty being awarded.

“The real mistake is made by Insigne who got sent off. It is a mistake that the captain of a great team should never make because it gives rise to controversy and regrets.”
