Inter are in a head to head race with Barcelona to sign Liverpool and Dutch national team central midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum according to a report from noted Italian football journalist Enzo Bucchioni.

Wijnaldum’s contract with the reigning Premier League champions is set to expire at the end of this season and as per Bucchioni both Inter and Barcelona are keen on adding him to their ranks.

Bucchioni states that Inter will try to offload unwanted players to raise all important funds in order to try and bring in players who are more functional for manager Antonio Conte’s system.

“In theory, after exiting Europe, the squad would be more than competitive to win the Scudetto, but it must certainly be calibrated for the changed situation,” Bucchioni said in his latest editorial for Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.

“Conte also has too many players, some who are no longer useful and others who are badly matched for his system. . It is clear that Inter will try to get rid of players like Eriksen, but also Nainggolan, Vecino and perhaps Perisic. This would be the goal, to create funds with which they would go after the players that Conte likes.”

When it comes to Wijnaldum Bucchioni goes on to add: “A tug-of-war is underway with Barcelona for the Dutchman Wijnaldum, whose contract with Liverpool is expiring.

“Marotta is thinking of repeating a similar deal to the one that he brought Eriksen to with in January. There is talk of a €15 million fee. Former Dutch coach Koeman really likes the midfielder and would like him to join him in Spain and the player is reflecting on things.”

30-year-old Wijnaldum joined Liverpool in the Summer of 2016 from Newcastle United and he has also previously played for both PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord.

This season Wijnaldum, who has represented Holland on no less than 62 occasions, has made 20 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored one goal.
