Nerazzurri Legend Beppe Bergomi: “Inter Have Defensive Balance Now Compared To Start Of Season”

Legendary former Inter defender and club captain Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi has shared his belief that Inter have changed recently compared to the team seen at the beginning of the 2020/21 season.

“Inter have changed. At the beginning of the season, Conte wanted ultra-attacking pressing, he always wanted the ball recovered high up the field and played with an attacking midfielder,” he explained whilst present in the studios of Italian broadcaster Sky Sport 24, yesterday afternoon.

He continued: “He tried, but couldn’t find balance and always conceded goals. He has the best attack but he needs defensive balance and so the team becomes strong.”

Bergomi then went on to state that he thinks Inter do not have as much talent as some of the other big clubs in Italy’s top flight.

“I know I go against the tide, and for this I praise Conte’s work, but Inter have less talent than the others for me like Roma, AC Milan or Napoli.”

He then elaborated on this but also sang the praises of Conte for what he has done and what he could think about if Inter have defensive balance.

“Inter have no players who create numerical superiority. Conte is good at putting these players together and making them perform at their best. With a defensive balance, he can think about going far.”

Bergomi spent the entirety of his playing career with Inter and in his 20 year spell with the club between 1979 and 1999, he made no less than 754 appearances across all competitions, an appearance tally bettered only by Javier Zanetti, who made over 800 appearances for Inter.
