Former AC Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta discussed Inter’s current position and the title race whilst speaking with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia earlier today.

“I think they have reduced possession in order to favour their main qualities. When you have to cover 40 meters behind, raising the center of gravity, for any defense, in this case the Nerazzurri, I think it is more difficult than marking and defending deep.”

He touched on the Nerazzurri’s early elimination from the Champions League and lack of European commitments this campaign.

“I think the elimination from Europe is a closed chapter. They won both games afterward. Antonio Conte, I think has revealed his plan B, he is showing it by changing something in the tactics, which is a positive factor.”

Finally, Costacurta spoke about the title race and the Bianconeri’s strong squad.

“I think that Inter can still be considered as the main candidate for the Scudetto. Juventus, in terms of players, I think are the strongest, but considering the overall picture, also with their coach, the Nerazzurri convince me more, despite Pirlo’s work so far.”

Inter are currently second in the Serie A table after 12 games, sitting on 27 points, one behind intercity rivals and league leaders AC Milan.

They are three points ahead of Andrea Pirlo’s Juventus, who still haven’t lost a game domestically so far this season.

The Nerazzurri’s next game is against newly promoted Spezia tomorrow, an important game as coach Antonio Conte looks to keep up the pressure on the Rossoneri, who will be without key man Zlatan Ibrahimovic for a number of weeks due to an injury.

Inter’s final game of the 2020 year is against Ivan Juric’s Hellas Verona next week.
