Napoli sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli discussed Inter linked Nikola Maksimovic and if he will leave the club in the upcoming January transfer window in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sports Italia earlier today.

“I don’t think anyone will leave, despite the fact that Hysaj and Maksimovic have contracts expiring. They know our will, for now there is no agreement, let’s see, it’s an open door.”

He then touched on the Partenopei’s reaction to their painful Serie A loss to Inter earlier this week.

“There is anger but also awareness of having reached a great level. We’re moving forward in a calm and focused way for tonight.”

The 29-year-old Maksimovic, who joined Napoli in 2017 from Spartak Moscow, has made eight appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 591 minutes.

In that time, he has helped the side keep four clean sheets, but is clearly on the fringes of coach Gennaro Gattuso’s project.

Inter are looking to strengthen their squad in the upcoming January transfer window, to help in their fight against Juventus and AC Milan for the league title.

Important areas that will be looked at are the left wing back role, a backup striker and a new midfielder, with multiple unneeded players set to be sold, including Christian Eriksen and Radja Nainggolan.
