Former Italian national team goalkeeper turned football pundit Luca Marchegiani has shared his belief that Inter manager Antonio Conte has realised something in recent weeks when it comes to playing against certain kind of teams.

Inter have managed to win each of their last six Serie A matches but have not had it all their own way during these matches and have been made to struggle and in some instances, even coming from behind to record wins.

“Do I think Conte woke up one morning and decided to be himself again? Maybe. Put I put it down to the technical-tactical aspect.

“He understood that the team is unable to overcome some difficulties,” Marchegiani explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, yesterday afternoon.

The former Lazio shot-stopper, who also played for Brescia and Chievo Verona among other clubs, went on to add: “When his opponents are closed off, he does not have a picklock in the shape of a player that can resolve things.

“Once he lets the other team out, Inter can hit them on the counterattack and score goals.

Marchegiani, who represented the Italian national team on nine occasions during his career, concluded by explaining: “He understood that if he lets other teams open up, he can open up. This is what has changed for Inter recently.”

After 13 games played of the 2020/21 Serie A season, Inter are currently sitting in second place in the standings with 30 points, which is one less than league leaders AC Milan.
