Former Inter striker Antonio Cassano has revealed that Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio had revealed to him that Inter had a deal in place to sign Rafael Leao, prior to his move to AC Milan.

The Portuguese under 21 national team attacker, who made history at the weekend by scoring the quickest goal in Serie A history after just over six seconds, joined the Rossoneri club in the Summer of 2019 from Lille.

Inter had shown an interest in the now 21-year-old that Summer and as per Cassano’s admission, Inter had more than just an interest in Leao.

“Ausilio pointed him out to me, Inter had signed him but then due to some problems he went to AC Milan. I like him, he can play on the wing or as a striker: I have not yet understood his precise role,” Cassano explained in an interview with former Inter striker Christian Vieri on his Twitch channel, late last night.

Since joining AC Milan on a five year contract, former Sporting CP player Leao has made 47 appearances across all competitions to date. In his time on the park he has managed to score 10 goals and provide six assists for his teammates.
