Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta has confirmed that out of favour attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen is for sale, moments before Inter kick off their final Serie A match of 2020 away to Hellas Verona.

“Conte and his coaches studied Verona, so I am sure we’re in for a very entertaining game,” he explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, moments ago.

He then went on to reveal that he and club management will meet with manager Antonio Conte to come up with a strategy for next month’s transfer window.

“First we will have to think about giving players up, we will meet with Conte as all clubs do with their managers in this period.

“It will be a normal meeting because we’re at the end of the first half of the season and at the start of the transfer window, and it’ll be a cordial encounter to work out a joint strategy.”

Marotta proceeded to be asked about the recent speculation in the media that has seen Inter linked with a move for Atalanta’s Papu Gomez as well as a whole array of other players.

“I don’t feel like naming names but I have read so many names that have nothing to do with us. It would be reductive to confirm or deny them, it’s fair you reporters do your work, but we’re sure that there will be many names mentioned over the next few weeks.”

The former Juventus executive, who has been with Inter for around two years now, then went on to confirm that Eriksen is available for sale.

“We’ve been very clear many times that there are players on the so-called transfer list, these are players who want to play more regularly, and the club is ready to make them happy and find replacements.

“Eriksen is on the transfer list, Piero Ausilio confirmed as much. He has struggled to settle into the squad, he is not functional to the squad.”

Marotta concluded by insisting that he was not insulting or punishing Eriksen: “That is not any insult towards his professionalism, there is no punishment, it’s just a situation that has developed and it’s only fair he goes where he can play more regularly.”
