Inter manager Antonio Conte was delighted with what he saw from his team in their 2-1 win away to Hellas Verona this evening.
Lautaro Martinez snapped an eight game goal drought to give Inter the lead shortly after the start of the second half. A mistake from Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic allowed Ivan Ilic to draw the hosts level but it was not long until Inter were back ahead with Milan Skriniar scoring what proved to be a winner for Inter.
“There are many positive aspects to be taken from this game. The determination we had today exuded our will to win against a team that has taken points against almost all of the big teams,” he explained in an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV, following the full time whistle at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.
“In my view, the performance was excellent, in terms of quality, strength and mentally. We were good at reacting after their equaliser, these are not obvious things.
“I think we are making progress when it comes to conviction. We are happy to have finished the year with the seventh consecutive win. Now let’s go and rest, we need it.”
It was then pointed out to Conte that this is the first time since the 1960/61 season that Inter have scored 34 goals after their 14 league games and he responded: “This is a team that has so far got used to having different scorers, demonstrated the desire to attack and has a variety of solutions.
“I’m happy for Skriniar, he needed a goal to gain more and more conviction. Now we need to rest for a moment and then resume, aware of the difficulty and balance of the league.”
In conclusion, he reiterated his delight with what his team showed in the match in Verona and sent a Christmas message to the Inter fans around the globe.
“Honestly, I am very satisfied with today’s win. Hellas Verona hardly let you play, winning at such a stadium is very nice.
“It was a deserved and desired result, the boys must understand that matches like today’s must be prepared for you must be played to win even before taking to the field. I take this opportunity to wish our fans a Merry Christmas.”
