Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has stressed that he and his teammates will have to do their best if they want to return to the city of Milan with some points from this evening’s Serie A match away to Hellas Verona.
“There is certainly a bit of tiredness, but we have to finish this league and this group in the best possible way,” he explained in an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV, prior to kick off at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.
“We have come here to play our game against a team that plays very well and with intensity. We will have to do our best to bring points back to Milan.”
He then shared what he is expecting from this match and what he and his teammates must do in the match against Ivan Juric’s side.
“It will be a tough, intense, physical game and this is why I say that we must do our job well and not let them play calmly as they are also physically good.
“We have to win the individual battles which I think will be very important in this match.”
He was then asked about his recent 100th appearance for the club which came in the final UEFA Champions League group stage match at home to Shakhtar Donetsk a few weeks ago.
“Getting to 100 appearances is not for everyone, it doesn’t happen every day. Doing it at a team as big as Inter is a pride. I am really happy.”
In a follow up interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, which took place shortly after, he added: “It is an important match because it is the last of the year, we only think about ourselves.
“We are thinking about winning against a tough team like Verona. Today we will face a very difficult opponent, we will have to do our job well.”
He was then asked about his recent goal drought: “Do I miss scoring goals? Of course, I’m a striker. I do everything for the team, I run and provide assists, you can’t always think about goals.”
This season the highly rated 23-year-old Argentine national team striker has made 19 appearances across all competitions to date. In his time on the park, he has managed to score six goals and provide five assists for his teammates.
