Inter Striker Lautaro Martinez: “Important Result, Now We Rest A Bit Then Back To Work”

Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has admitted that he and his teammates are satisfied to have come away with a win away to Hellas Verona in their final game of the calendar year this evening.

“It is an important result. We finished the year with seven consecutive wins, we are satisfied with the result,” he remarked in an interview with Inter’s official club broadcaster Inter TV, following the match at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.

The highly rated Argentine national team forward then went on to share his belief that he and his teammates could have had more than just two goals in the match.

“We could have also scored more goals. We had many chances, ending the year with a win was what we wanted. Now we go home happy, to rest a bit, and then get back to training for the next matches.”

Lautaro’s goal in this match was his first goal in eight matches and he spoke on what it meant to find himself back amongst the goals again following his recent drought.

“For a striker, scoring goals is essential, strikers lives for goals. Today I scored and I’m happy. I scored the goal that unlocks the match and that has even more value. I’m happy when Inter win and to help the team.”

In conclusion he was asked about whether he and his teammates used up more physical or psychological energy in this match.

“We used up a lot of physical energy. It is always difficult to tackle teams who run a lot like Verona do and mark a man.

“In the next few days we will need to recover our strength, rest of our body and mind, and then return to being the best available. I want to wish happy holidays to all the fans and the staff.”

This season the 23-year-old has made 20 appearances across all competitions to date, in which he has scored seven goals and tallied five assists for his teammates.
