Antonio Conte changed his ways to counter the Ivan Juric’s press and it seemed to keep Verona at bay in the first half. Only one chance was created by either team in the first 45 but after the break the game opened up.

Hakimi put a decent cross in that was volleyed in by Lautaro who made a welcome return to form. Samir Handanovic handed Verona a chance back into the game with probably his worst howler in a long time.

This Inter has some mental strength and it showed as just 6 mins later Skriniar scored his first goal in a very long time. No last ditch tackles or saves were needed as Inter saw the game out with relative calm.

Samir Handanovic – 4.5: One fantastic save in the first half which kept the game within reach. Then when Inter actually had the win in hand, he made an unforgivable error.

Milan Skriniar – 7.5: Very comfortable first half where Skriniar had things under as much control as he wanted. Scored a goal worth his weight in gold. Next captain surely.

Stefan De Vrij – 7: Absolutely dominated the less experienced Salcedo and Colley. Was first to every aerial ball. First to every 50-50 pass, always ready to win duels.

Alessandro Bastoni – 7: One bad pass in the game that didn’t cost anything. To play like how he is consistently at a club with a special environment at that age is outlandish.

Achraf Hakimi – 7: Too timid in attack in the first half. Refused to take on a player even when he could see the space and opportunity.Opened the floodgates in the second.

Nicolo Barella – 6.5: The 3-4-2-1 requires Barella to be much more disciplined in his central role. Patrolled the midfield very well without giving away any needless fouls.

Marcelo Brozovic – 6.5: Much more active in the defensive phase in this formation. As always was the only outlet for the defense and midfield to find any of the attackers.

Ashley Young – 6: Just like Achraf on the other flank Ashley was way too timid. Verona didn’t attack much on their right either. Should have been more cynical.

Ivan Perisic – 5.5: For some reason the midfield never found him making runs or in space to receive the ball. Was missing for major chunks of the game. Arrivederci?

Romelu Lukaku – 6: Was involved in almost every attack. Whether its receiving the long ball or the short pass, he was always looking to play a team mate in space. Leader.

Lautaro Martinez – 7: The 3-4-2-1 on paper doesn’t suit Lautaro’s strengths but he gave a decent account of himself. A fantastic volley that requires a lot of technical ability.

Arturo Vidal – 6.5: Perhaps Arturo’s best 20 minutes in an Inter jersey. Played the role very well and added weight in attack and in midfield as and when it was needed.

Roberto Gagliardini – N/A: Lautaro was tired and Conte just threw on the most defensive midfielder he saw on his bench. Ran for 6 mins or so to ensure the important victory.

Antonio Conte – 7.5: The new formation seemed very risky but it ate up the press from Verona throughout the game. Good game plan and management overall. Conteball.

Piero Giacomelli – 5.5: Not a very difficult game to referee in. In the second half he should have used VAR on a few occasions. Much better than the rest of his colleagues.

Inter – 7: Inter controlled large parts of the game and despite of an error that would normally send Inter spinning out of control, they regained the lead. Calm.
